BTBuckets debuted Adwords Retargeting Integration at Google I/O 2010

BTBuckets participated in the Google I/O Sandbox in San Francisco last week discussing the new Chrome and Adwords integration features with their free behavioral segmentation and targeting platform.

During the Google I/O conference on May 19-20 in San Francisco, the 5,000 conference participants had an opportunity to be the first to test new features presented by the BTBuckets's founders. BTBuckets debuted their new Google Chrome plugin offering one-click integrations with three Google products: Adwords, Google Analytics and Google Website Optimizer. We were very proud of offering an advanced yet streamlined integration with the new Adwords Retargeting functionality - allowing Google's new behavioral targeting feature to be used with advanced user segments and a tag-free implementation.

Google announced the Adwords retargeting feature two months ago, discussing the advantages of retargeting your website users on their property: http://adwords.blogspot.com/2010/03/now-available-reach-right-audie... - which allows you to place tags on special pages where visitors are clustered to be shown ads on the Google network (outside of the original site). This feature is amazing, however BTBuckets did see two opportunities where it could be improved.

One-click Implementation

Tagging your site to allow use of the remarketing feature can be costly
and frustrating. Therefore, we created a browser plugin integration that from within Google Adwords, you can automatically select the bucket of users you want to retarget, and with one click, BTBuckets will automatically include the retargeting tag for these users.

Notice in the capture below that a BTBuckets icon is added to the re-targeting code. When you click this button, BTBuckets will automatically install the tag on your site without the need of editing any HTML code on your site:

Advanced Segmentation

Because BTBuckets allows you to retarget any audience segment, you can go way beyond a simple page view on a specific web content and create advanced clusters, such as:

  • users who saw specific content with frequency control in different visits within specific time frame;
  • users from a specific geographic region;
  • users who came from specific sources (ex: organic search) and saw specific content
Notice in the capture below that a BTBuckets how any segments created in BTBuckets can be used to target Adwords.

We do hope Adwords users do engage with this new feature and understand the true benefits of behavioral retargeting.

I am using Chrom on Mac and have downloaded and installed the plugin. It shows as on and has my API and reads my buckets. I am new to remarketing however, and am unsure where the Bitbucket icon allowing me to auto-insert the Google Adwords remarketing tag is suppose to appear. It doesn't seem to be appearing when I create or edit an audience under Campaigns->Shared Library.>Audiences

Am I going to the wrong place? Are there any docs or getting started guides that explain this other than this one page?

Hello Ajmal,

About your issues:

1) Where did you insert the BTBuckets tag? At the top of your page in the Head section? Could you send us a URL so we can check it out?

2) Did you restrict the redirection to specific URLs in the targeting code interface? If not, the redirection could be occurring even on the homepage.

3) From the information you sent us, it looks that the redirection could be happening on the page you redirected to. You can configure URL patterns to apply the targeting code.

Please do feel free do contact us directly if you want help specific help in your account.

Cheers,
BTBuckets Team

Hi
I am Ajmal from India.. I am using BT buckets for redirection for my higher bounce rate sites so that they can be redirected to homepage... (only landing pages with high bounce rates referred from search engines)

My site is build in Ruby on Rails, it has also an auto refresh every 5 minutes.

Ok now to the issue

1. When I activated the redirection for a page what I noticed is - a. the initial page is loaded for about 2-3 seconds and then it is redirected to home page(which is what I defined) - CAN we avoid this loading and then redirecting....

2. And when the page is redirected.. the home page was refreshing every few seconds so that it was not loaded itself and then again it gets loaded.. it was continuing for ever.. for which I had to delete the bucket itself

3. I could choose other pages to redirect to home page -- many pages redirected to single home page..

Pls do help in this regard.. I am newbie.. am I doing some mistake.. or there is any error..

Thanks

Hi Jessica - we have only one plugin with all integrations. What browser are you using?

Cheers.

The link to download the AdWords Plugin is broken. I'd like to test this tool with our remarketing campaign, have downloaded the GA plugin, but don't seem to get the option to select a bucket on the remarketing code screen (as shown above). Is there another plugin I should be using for AdWords?

Thanks!
Jessica
