The capability of creating an engaging user experience by personalization is directly linked with message content and timing. Users will be impressed by receiving messages appropriate to segments they belong - but may become disappointed if the timing is off.
This happened recently to me, where as an expecting dad who just had a kid - I was bombarded with product offerings for pre-birth opportunities. Good segmentation, bad timing. The same can happen on your site.
At BTBuckets, we want to create a personalization solution that will create unique customer experiences for different segments
*without* the need to change a single line of code on your site. We have received many requests for ways to limit the amount of times a specific type of content is shown to a specific segment. We have discussed
some workarounds for this benefit, but only now have we released what we consider the silver bullet solution for this type of need:
total targeting frequency control.
When you create or edit a target, you will now notice that you can control the amount of times a specific
targeting code is displayed. We have created three types of frequency control filters that can be combined to limit the amount of times the targeting code is displayed to users:
- Per visit - the amount of times that targeting code will be displayed per visit;
- Per visitor - the amount of times that targeting code will be displayed per visitor;
- Global - the total amount of times that targeting code will be displayed.
So let's say you want to show a specific message to a specific segment only once per visit but a total of three times per visitor. You can configure this targeting code for a frequency control of
1 per visit and
3 per visitor.
You can also apply tests or control the total amount of times and/or visitors you want to target. Let's say you want to apply a specific promotion for 100 users of a specific bucket, simply select a
global value of 100 and a
per visitor value of 1.
The combinations are endless and now you can control what, where, when, and how personalized content is displayed on your site.
Happy Targeting!
