I'm trying to use geolocation targeting for some major cities in Czech republic. I've set up several buckets for "Czech Republic" (country-level), for "Prague" (city-level) and for "Ceske Budejovice" (city-level) visitors. For these buckets I've created some simple targeting just by appending a paragraph with "Hello to Prague".
The problem is that nobody of my Prague friends (no big sample, just a dozen of them), who visited the page, saw the city-level greeting. But everybody saw the country-level greeting "Hello Czechs".
When I was creating the buckets, it suggested me the precise city names, so I think that they exist in the geo database. Do you know anything about BTBucket's precision of city-level recognition?
Do you have similar problems with the geo precision in some other countries?
Any plans to upgrade your systems to leverage the more accurate MaxMind - GeoIP City database? I like your solution and am trying to convince a large client to use it for geo-targeting to its web visitors. Accuracy on a city level is very important to us, even if its only a few percentage points. The GeoIP City database is 83% accurate at city level. I'd love to discuss this with someone from your company.
Hi Mark - what countries are you expecting to target? Some countries have a city targeting accuracy above the total average: www.maxmind.com/app/city_accuracy.
We are also upgrading from the Maxmind GeoLite database to the GeoIP City Database.
